Bioethanol by Hveiti

Bioethanol from Hveiti is produced on feed wheat and has a 70 % CO2 reduction capacity compared to regular gasoline.

The large amount of starch found in feed wheat makes it very well suited for the production of bioethanol, as it is the starch that is used for the production of bioethanol.

Hveiti will on a yearly basis produce 200 mill. liters of bioethanol, which will be sold for the global market.

Through the Danish law on sustainable biofuels, which came into force in July 2010, all gasoline sold in Denmark contains a 5 % bioethanol blend. This means that Hveiti’s yearly production capacity could cover Denmark’s entire consumption.

Bioethanol is only one of four products, which Hveiti will produce from biomass. Because the production process has been optimized, all parts of the biomass are used optimally, which is also the reason why Hveiti is a biorefinery and not just a bioethanol producer.

According to calculations made by the Danish Energy Agency, Hveiti’s production of bioethanol will be able to reduce CO2 emissions from the transport sector by 300,000 tons a year.
