EurObserv’Er publishes latest data on EU biofuel industry

The report shows that EU’s collected use of biofuels in 2012 was 14.4 mill. tons, which is a 2.9 % increase since 2011. It also shows that the biofuel incorporation rate in transport across the EU was 4.7 %.

Germany is the largest consumer of biofuels in the EU, and all of Germany’s biofuel is certified sustainable according to the Renewable Energy Directive. 

With a 14th place and a consumption of 70,528 tons bioethanol and 159,006 biodiesel, Denmark is placed exactly in the middle of the table. All of Denmark’s consumption is, like Germany’s, certified sustainable. 

The share of each type of biofuel as energy content of EU biofuel consumption in 2012:

• 79.1 % biodiesel

• 19.9 % bioethanol

• 0.5 % biogas

• 0.5 % vegetable oil
