It is hveiti's awareness of the need for a better use of global land and water resources, which initially aroused the Minister for the Environments interest. She has a strong focus on the sustainable growth agenda and the need for long-term solutions which include both social, environmental and economic challenges. hveiti's production concept was not the only issue discussed at the meeting. The importance of long-term political decisions was also discussed since they are the single most important tool to allow industry the necessary basis for a green transition. This is for example good sustainability criterias, eg. when it comes to the production of bioethanol.
Sustainable growth is the combination of social, economical and environmental aspects.
Ida Auken, Minister for the Environment, said during her visit at hveiti.
Hveiti's production concept is based on proven technology that has been optimized through Danish innovation and energy savings. The upcoming production of Grenaa is based on winter wheat, but the people behind the project are already seeing the potential of a future production and biorefining of brown algae (seaweed) for feed and fuel. There is a clear expectation that the production of brown algae can become a new effective way of reducing agricultural nitrogen and phosphorus impacts of marine areas. A problem The minister of the environment knows all too well because of the nitrogen emissions from agriculture on the one hand and the fulfillment of the Action Plans on the other. This gave the minister an insight into also the long-term possibilities in Danish biorefining.
Follow the developments within biorefining. hveiti regularly informs about our efforts to improve the environment.
