Challenges

Hveiti’s production concept is based on the recognition that we are facing massive challenges within climate, environment and food security, which are closely interconnected. If we are to find an answer to these challenges, our approach has to be long-term and holistic.

This means that we have to look at the challenges in both the short, medium and long term perspective. Right now climate change is the main challenge. Climate change is the reason why the already most vulnerable countries are facing even more severe challenges - like droughts in the northern Africa and floods in the south eastern part of Asia.

To begin with, the effects of climate change will be limited in Denmark. However, many other places around the world are already now facing the severe consequences of climate change.

Climate change causes food- and water shortages all around the world and this will only get worse, if we do not succeed in bringing down the CO2 emissions. To do so, the phase-out of fossil fuels is crucial.

This requires many different initiatives, in which a general focus on resource optimisation is essential. The number of people in the world is rising – by 2050 we will be 9 billion people – and thereby even more people to share the global land- and water resources, which can result in political conflicts.

Therefore, we have to find out, how we in the future optimise the use of every resource – cultivate the agricultural land better and use the crops in the best way possible. What will be the most optimal ting to do will depend on local conditions, why it is important to take a starting point in the local area and the local resources

Hveiti’s production concept is based on local conditions, and is an intelligent first step towards a larger resource utilisation degree and a reduction in the global CO2 emissions.
