Air France flies on biofuels

The 13 October 2011, Air France organized its first flight on 50 % biofuel from Toulouse Blagnac to Paris-Orly, the company writes on its website.

As part of their strategy of becoming the airline company with the lowest CO2 emissions, Air France has carried out its first flight on 50 % biofuel and 50 % aviation fuel.

In comparison to traditional flights between Toulouse and Paris, the CO2 emissions were lowered by 50 % on this flight, which was due to:

  • Use of sustainable biofuel halves emissions (use of a 50 % mix of sustainable biofuel).
  • Optimized procedures throughout the entire flight.
  • In-depth work carried out to reduce mass (1 kg of weight removed = 80 metric tons of CO2 saved per year).

Emissions on this flight amounted to 54g of CO2 per passenger-km – half that emitted on a conventional flight. The commercial flight is part of the company's programme to contribute to the fight against climate change.
